'BOUT TIME
After the disappointment of having to cancel ERRD last year the new board decided to host a weekend event for juniors.
After months of planning.... complications..... planning..... changes......planning.... cancellations .... planning.... late additions..... planning then 'BOUT TIME 2019 just happened.
All the people who had pushed us to run this event stepped up and made it a successful weekend.
Our NSO's, refs, cooks, benchies, providers of sound gear, commentator, skaters, parents and everyone else who helped along the way contributed to make it all about the skaters..
Was it polished?.... No. Was it the best derby event ever?....No Would we make improvements in the future?.... Yes.
What it did do is highlight what it is to be in a Derby Community. Everyone contributing to give the skaters a place to learn, work on skills, meet other juniors and test their abilities against some of the best skaters in Australia
Skaters came from as far as Brisbane, Toowoomba, Hobart, Adelaide to be at this event and we thank them (and their parents) for their commitment.
One of the highlights was the boot camp by Sausarge Rolls and his amazing skills and great coaching style. At the end of the day he didn't want to leave the Juniors and they still tried to draw a heap of derby stories out of him over dinner.
The level 3 & 4 games were a true pot luck where the skaters literally drew their colour from a pot to decide their teams. This proved to be a great way to allow skaters to meet and skate with others they may not know or have had the opportunity to skate with before.
The 1's and 2's had their chance to scrim in non contact training sessions too.
Lots of fun was had by all and we had many favourable comments from participants.
The whole weekend was only made possible by the contribution by the NSW government.
